Ibucalmin

Ibucalmin is available as 20 film-coated tablets containing 200 mg of ibuprofen. 

This strength is common for the treatment of mild pain, such as headaches, menstrual cramps or muscle aches, and can be easily taken orally.

Ibucalmin has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effect. 

It is recommended for the relief of mild to moderate pain, with or without inflammation, such as headaches, including migraine-type headaches, back pain, dental pain, neuralgia, menstrual pain. 

Ibucalmin can also be used for muscle and rheumatic pain that occurs in various chronic inflammatory arthropathies: rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondyloarthritis or psoriatic arthritis.

Ibucalmin is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of fever and cold and flu symptoms.

For adults, adolescents and children over 12 years of age, doses of 1-2 film-coated Ibucalmin 200 mg (200 - 400 mg ibuprofen) tablets are recommended. 

If necessary, the dose may be repeated at 4-6 hour intervals, not to exceed 1200 mg ibuprofen in 24 hours. 

Ibucalmin should not be used in the following situations:

• Hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients
• History of hypersensitivity reactions associated with the use of acetylsalicylic acid or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs 
• Gastric or duodenal ulcer, gastrointestinal inflammatory disorders, gastrointestinal bleeding, ongoing or past history
• Disseminated lupus erythematosus or other collagen-forming diseases
• Cerebrovascular hemorrhages
• Hematologic diseases
• Severe liver, kidney or heart failure
• Before or after heart surgery
• Last 4 months of pregnancy 

In elderly patients, dose adjustment is not necessary, except in patients with renal or hepatic impairment in whom doses need to be adjusted. 

Long-term use should be avoided without the supervision of a doctor as it may increase the risk of gastrointestinal and cardiovascular complications.

Like any medicine, Ibucalmin can cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. More common side effects include:

• Gastrointestinal disturbances: nausea, vomiting, bowel disturbance, active ulcers, gastrointestinal bleeding, abdominal discomfort, abdominal pain,

• Skin and subcutaneous disorders: rash, mucosal lesions, hypersensitivity reactions, exfoliative dermatitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome

• Hepatobiliary disorders: liver damage with increased serum liver transaminases

• Nervous, acoustic or vestibular disorders: headache, vertigo, hearing impairment

• Respiratory disorders: bronchial asthma or worsening of bronchial asthma, bronchospasm or dyspnea.

• Kidney and urinary tract disorders: oliguria or kidney failure.

Ibucalmin may interact with certain medicines, which may increase the risk of side effects or decrease the effectiveness of treatment. Interactions include:

• Acetylsalicylic acid
• Other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
• Corticosteroids 
• Anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs
• Antihypertensive
• Diuretics
• Litigation
• Methotrexate
• Some antacids
• Phenytoin
• Digoxin
• Cyclosporine and trimethoprim

It is recommended that you inform your specialist about all the medicines you are currently using to avoid the risk of possible interactions.

Symptoms of Ibucalmin overdose include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness, and in severe intoxication metabolic acidosis may occur.

If an overdose is suspected, it is essential to seek immediate medical attention.

Store Ibucalmin in a cool, dry place away from direct light and moisture. It should be stored at a temperature below 25°C and out of the reach of children.
