Goldenseal is a perennial plant found in forests, native to regions of North America. It has been valued for centuries by Native Americans, who used it in many aspects of traditional herbal practices. An infusion obtained from the roots and used as a base for local infusions and tinctures. Due to its long history of traditional use in the treatment of a wide range of infections, it is now known that hollow seal contains a powerful plant alkaloid - berberine. Berberine has been shown to stimulate the immune system by activating macrophages, which fight harmful microorganisms. Macrophages are a type of white blood cell in the immune system that engulf and digest cellular debris, foreign substances, microbes, and anything else that does not have a type of protein specific to healthy body cells.
