Graviola, Guanabana or Graviola with soft thorns, comes from South America. It is currently cultivated from Mexico and Florida through the Caribbean Islands through Brazil, Colombia to the northern regions of Argentina. The plant can also be found in Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia and even Israel.

Graviola is a small tree that grows to a maximum of 7-10 m or is often a large bush. It is an evergreen plant with large alternate leaves that have an unpleasant smell. The Graviola fruit is one of the largest of the exotic fruits and is often heart-shaped. At maturity, it grows up to 10-30 cm in length and 15 cm in width and weighs from 1.5 to 6.5 kg. Graviola has a soft skin that tastes bitter and inedible. It is covered with small, slightly curved, soft and flexible spines. The skin is dark green when unripe, becoming soft and greenish-yellow when ripe.

Graviola pulp is divided into juicy, fibrous segments, in which you can find hard, black seeds (up to 2 cm in size). The flesh is white or slightly creamy and easily separates from the skin when the fruit is ripe.
