Properties and indications of JOJOBA OIL:
Jojoba oil owes both its reputation and its many uses to its exceptional properties.
This is primarily because jojoba oil is a unique presence among vegetable oils. It contains waxy esters, being composed of long-chain fatty acids (C40 – C44) and fatty alcohols united by an ester bond, at room temperature it is actually a liquid wax, hence the special non-greasy and slightly astringent texture. It contains only a small percentage of triglycerides and is therefore a much more stable oil and more resistant to oxidation than other vegetable oils. It also contains:
vitamin E with an antioxidant and anti-aging role
vitamins from the B complex with a nutritional role for the skin,
polyphenols (tannins) with an astringent role that contribute to reducing the size of pores
phytosterols with anti-inflammatory role
minerals such as Zn, Cr, Cu (trace elements that assist the biochemical processes that take place in the skin).
This special composition makes jojoba oil a very fast absorbing oil in the epidermis (top layer of the skin). Practically, once applied on its own, jojoba oil "disappears" quickly, leaving the skin soft and velvety; this effect is visible with the naked eye within minutes of application. Its absorption occurs both through hair follicles (pores) and through the lipid space between keratinocytes (the last layer of cells of the epidermis).
Jojoba oil can penetrate the pores without clogging them; in addition, its chemical similarity with human sebum makes it a real "solvent" of it in the case of clogged pores; it basically unclogs and drains clogged pores. This makes it an oil suitable for oily, combination and/or acne-prone skin.
jojoba oil restores the skin's lipid barrier and forms a real non-occlusive "film" that reduces transepidermal water loss, thus ensuring an optimal level of water in the cells of the epidermis. Through this mechanism, it contributes decisively to the biochemical processes of skin cell regeneration and implicitly to the maintenance of its health.
In addition, clinical studies have shown that it is non-comedogenic and can be used for all skin types.
