Description
Oscillating positive expiratory pressure device, Trudell Medical International
Properties:
- the Aerobika oscillating positive expiratory pressure device is a therapy device for freeing the airways, used to mobilize excess lung secretions and improve breathing;
- can be used to manage respiratory conditions such as COPD, bronchiectasis and cystic fibrosis.
- the Aerobika device can also be used simultaneously with the administration of drugs in the form of aerosols through the nebulizer;
- is intended for use by patients capable of generating an exhalation flow of 10 L/min, for 3-4 seconds.
How to use:
Before use, make sure that these instructions have been read and are always at hand.
If you have any questions regarding the performance or use of this product, please contact your physician prior to use.
For device descriptions, see Figure 1. Single Patient Use.

- Device usage
- Use with a nebulizer
Attention:
Medicines that need to remain in the lungs, such as antibiotics, should only be taken with the nebuliser after finishing a treatment with the Aerobika device.
1. Make sure you have read and understood the instructions provided with the nebulizer before starting treatment.
2.Make sure the nebulizer is properly mounted and that the medication has been added to the nebulizer cup.Remove the mouthpiece (or mask) from the nebulizer.
3.Attach the nebulizer to the nebulizer port of the Aerobika* device as shown in figure 3.
4.Turn on the compressed air source and complete the combined treatment using the breathing technique shown above.
Notes:
- no adapter required if used with AEROECLIPSE* brand of breath actuated nebulizers.
- make sure the nebulizer remains upright for proper nebulization.
- always make sure the mouthpiece of the Aerobika device* is used, otherwise the device will not work properly. (See figure 3)
- if used in combination with a nebulizer, the Aerobika* device must be cleaned after each use to remove residues that may have been deposited by exhalation.
Precautions:
Do not leave the device unsupervised within the reach of children. Contains small parts that can cause suffocation.
Contraindications:
The use of the device is not recommended in the following situations:
- patients who cannot tolerate the increased effort to breathe;
- intracranial pressure (ICP) > 20 mm Hg;
- hemodynamic instability (blood pressure instability);
- recent surgical interventions or facial, oral or cranial trauma;
- acute sinusitis;
- epistaxis (nosebleed);
- surgical interventions on the esophagus;
- nausea;
- active hemoptysis (removal of blood from the lungs);
- untreated pneumothorax (untreated collapsed lung);
- known or suspected rupture of the tympanic membrane or another pathology of the middle ear;
Warnings:
Using the device at excessive pressures may have adverse effects.
Expiratory pressures above 20 cm H₂O in patients sensitive to increased transpulmonary pressure may cause one or more of the adverse side effects listed below.
Selection of appropriate settings for each individual patient should be made based on expert clinical judgment.
Failure to perform the appropriate resistance setting on the adjustment indicator with the patient's expiratory flow may result in failure to achieve the therapeutic goals of oscillatory PEP therapy or one or more of the adverse side effects listed below.
Side effects may include:
- increased breathing effort that can lead to hypoventilation and hypercarbia;
- increased cranial pressure;
- compromised cardiovascular system;
- myocardial ischemia;
- decrease in venous return;
- swallowing air with increased probability of vomiting and aspiration;
- claustrophobia;
- pulmonary barotraumas.
