Cystohyal® was developed to temporarily replenish the deficient glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer on the bladder epithelium. The active substance is a highly purified sodium salt of hyaluronic acid.

• It helps restore the protective barrier of the urinary bladder by regenerating the glycosaminoglycan layer
• The glycosaminoglycan (GAG) layer on the luminal surface of the bladder wall is thought to provide a protective barrier against microorganisms, carcinogens, crystals and other agents present in the urine and has been identified as the primary defense mechanism in protecting against urinary irritants of the transitional epithelium
• Deficiencies of this GAG layer in the bladder epithelium can destroy barrier function and allow adhesion of bacteria, microcrystals, proteins, and ions or movement of dissolved, ionic, and nonionic residues (eg, urea) across the epithelium
• The GAG ​​layer of the bladder is deficient in interstitial cystitis, radicular cystitis, cystitis from infection, trauma, urinary lithiasis, urinary retention, or neoplasia.

To relieve a cystitis associated with such a clinical picture, it is recommended to instill Cystohyal® into the bladder once a week for 4 to 12 weeks, then once a month until the symptoms disappear.

CYSTOHYAL® should only be administered by a qualified healthcare professional after any residual urine has been removed.

For best results, CYSTOHYAL® should be kept in the bladder for as long as possible (minimum 30 minutes).
